Wylara is a camping trip planning platform. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We believe in keeping things straightforward.
Data We Collect
Information you provide
- Account data: Email address, name, and password when you sign up.
- Quiz responses: Your camping personality quiz answers, which help us personalize recommendations.
- Trip data: Saved campsites, trip plans, reviews, and condition reports you create.
- Preferences: Notification settings, display preferences, and feature configurations.
- Phone number: If you opt in to SMS alerts, we collect your mobile phone number to send campsite availability notifications.
- Payment info: Billing details are collected and processed by Stripe. We never store your full credit card number on our servers.
Information collected automatically
- Location data: If you grant permission, we use your location to show nearby campsites and provide distance calculations. You can revoke location access at any time through your browser settings.
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, search queries, and interaction patterns. This helps us improve the product.
- Device info: Browser type, operating system, and screen size for compatibility and analytics.
How We Generate Recommendations
Wylara scores campsites and generates personalized recommendations. Here's what feeds into those recommendations:
- Your camping personality quiz responses.
- Trip history and saved campsites.
- Search patterns and browsing behavior within Wylara.
- Public campsite data (amenities, terrain, weather, accessibility).
We do not sell your data to third parties. Your personal information is used only to improve your experience within Wylara.
Third-Party Services
We use the following services to operate Wylara:
- Stripe for payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy
- Twilio for delivering SMS alerts when campsite availability changes. Your phone number is shared with Twilio solely for message delivery. Twilio's privacy policy
- Resend for transactional email delivery (availability alerts, account notifications).
- Supabase for database hosting and authentication.
- Vercel for application hosting.
- Recreation.gov for federal campground data.
- OpenStreetMap for map data.
- AQICN for air quality information near campsites.
Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.
Cookies & Analytics
Wylara uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We also use analytics to understand how people use the platform so we can make it better.
- Essential cookies: Required for authentication and core functionality. Cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: Help us understand usage patterns. You can opt out through your browser settings.
We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels from ad networks.
SMS Alerts & Phone Number Data
Wylara offers optional SMS alerts for campsite availability monitoring. Here's how we handle your phone number:
- Opt-in only: SMS alerts are never enabled by default. You must explicitly enable SMS and provide your phone number in your notification preferences.
- What we send: Campsite availability alerts when monitored sites become available. We do not send marketing messages via SMS.
- Storage: Your phone number is stored securely in our database alongside your notification preferences. It is encrypted at rest.
- Third-party sharing: Your phone number is shared only with Twilio for the purpose of delivering SMS messages. It is not sold or shared with any other party.
- Opt-out: You can disable SMS alerts at any time from your notification preferences in the Monitoring settings. You can also reply STOP to any SMS message. Disabling SMS removes your phone number from active messaging.
- Deletion: When you delete your account, your phone number is removed along with all other personal data within 30 days.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data. You can export your data from your account settings.
- Delete your account and associated data. Account deletion is available in settings, or you can email us.
- Portability. Request a copy of your data in a standard format.
- Correction. Update inaccurate personal information at any time.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you're a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA:
- The right to know what personal information is collected and how it's used.
- The right to delete personal information.
- The right to opt out of the sale of personal information. (We do not sell your data.)
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Some data may be retained longer if required by law or for legitimate business purposes (like fraud prevention).
Anonymous, aggregated data (like campsite popularity statistics) may be retained indefinitely.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Wylara is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@wylara.com and we will delete it promptly.
International Transfers
Wylara is based in the United States. If you use Wylara from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using Wylara, you consent to this transfer.
